Learning

This course has enabled me to study literature, yet I have studied it as never before. Literature in the classroom does not have to remain within the realm of the standard cannon of literature. Technology is advancing everyday, and as future teachers, we have the opportunity to utilize that technology within the classroom to engage students in the study of literature like never before. Through exploring different texts on electronic literature and graphic design, I have learned about their significance in the English classroom. My knowledge of digital text and images has expanded immensely after taking this course. Much of that is due to discussion in class, but also through the blog project.

As opposed to a conventional English research paper, this blog project employs images and design. At this stage in my education, I have written too many papers to count. There is no guarantee that one more would challenge the way that I look at literature, but this blog project certainly has. As you can see, this blog required much writing, like a research paper, but it allowed me to record my own thoughts and interpretations without the support of other authors. I am free to write what I think and desire, and I do not have to consult some other source. This freedom with words and images is foreign to the standard research paper. Although I believe that knowing and practicing the process of writing research papers are necessary to a student's education, the freedom of creating a different work is very enjoyable. I've learned more about electronic literature by discussing it and experiencing it within my blog than I believe I could have by writing a research paper about the same topic.
